Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes intend to continue work on the 23rd James Bond movie. Despite studio MGM pulling the plug on the movie indefinitely.

Producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said they did not know when work on the 23rd Bond film would resume and there was no date for its release.

The latest Bond, due to star Daniel Craig as 007 for the third time, had been due out in 2011 or 2012. James Bond is one of the longest running franchises in film history.

Wilson and Broccoli, of EON Productions, said: "Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on Bond 23 indefinitely."

James Bond is reportedly planning to take on the poppy fields of Afghanistan in his next assignment.If reports are to be believed at least some parts of the next movie in the Bond franchise will be shot in the Helmand province in Afghanistan.

According to online reports on James Bond fan-sites, an official, a member of the Foreign Office’s drug task force in the country has signed on as a consultant for the franchise.The official, who has since left the Foreign Office and Afghanistan, is thought to have signed a confidentiality agreement with the filmmakers preventing any discussion of the project, The Times reported.
